The Mayor has declared a state of emergency in Stewart Manor due to the snow
storm. As such, we ask that you do
not park cars on the street to facilitate snow removal by Village crews.
We also ask your cooperation with the following:
When you use a snow blower, please blow the snow back onto your
property rather than into the street so that the crews can keep the streets
safe and as clear as possible.
If you live near a fire hydrant, please help to keep yourself and your
neighbors safe by clearing all snow from around the hydrant to make it accessible.
If you are walking, please wear something very visible so you can be seen
and be aware of approaching cars and plows.
Rear yard garbage pickup is completely suspended today and
tomorrow. The sanitation crews are
collecting any garbage today and tomorrow that is/was brought to the curb before
6 a.m. (if it is your regular garbage day).
Please make sure any
garbage bags are tied securely and the bags are sturdy.
Recycling (newspapers and tied cardboard) will take place tomorrow
if it can be safely brought to the curb and collected.
Over the next few days, if you have not created a clear path to your garbage,
please move it directly to the curb until you do so in order to facilitate the
collection of the garbage. If the crews
cannot safely access the garbage, it will not be collected.
For any medical
or fire emergency (other than a police matter), you should call 742-3300, which is
always the best way for the Stewart Manor Fire Department to be dispatched.
While the Village is hoping that there are not any power outages, they always
remain a possibility. Please call PSEG Long
Island to report any outage at 1-800-490-0075. You should also call that number
to report any downed power lines. Please
remember not to approach any downed lines; always assume that they are
energized.
Lastly, if you have someone who is willing to shovel snow, you can let us
know. If we get any inquiries from those
who need help, we would simply pass along the contact information of those who
responded to this email.
Thank you for your cooperation in all of the above matters. Be safe!
