EMERGENCY AMBULANCE RESPONSE – STEWART MANOR FIRE
DEPARTMENT
CALL 516-742-3300
At
the request of Chief Powell of our Stewart Manor Fire Department, we are alerting
our residents of the protocol now being practiced for Emergency Ambulance Responses. Please
read his message below.
Due
to a recent Nassau County
Police Department decision, if you call 911 for an ambulance you
will only get a Nassau County Police Ambulance, which will be charged to you.
In the past, the Stewart Manor FD had a working agreement with Nassau
County for dual response so that when you dialed 911 both the Stewart
Manor Fire Department Ambulance and Nassau County Ambulance will respond. However,
Nassau County has decided that due to the pandemic, they do not want
multiple ambulances to respond to the same call. We have asked for the dual
response to be re-instituted in order to shorten response time and provide
a better response to our residents’ calls. The Nassau
County Police Department has refused our Fire Department’s
request to return to the dual response system. If you
would like the Stewart Manor Fire Department Ambulance to respond (At No Charge),
you need to call our Stewart Manor Fire Department at 516-742-3300 and
request an ambulance.
