IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM NATIONAL GRID ABOUT
DIGGING
The Importance of Dialing 811
Since the
COVID19 pandemic began in March, the Village is fully committed to protecting
and safeguarding the residents. In
partnership with National Grid, the Village strongly encourages that you remain
vigilant and cautious when planning home improvement projects (and to remember
to apply for building permits for those projects).
Nationally
every nine minutes, an underground utility line is damaged because someone didn’t
contact 8-1-1 before digging. Striking a single underground utility line can
cause injury, repair costs, fines, and inconvenient outages.
For homeowners
and contractors alike, please remember the importance of calling 8-1-1 prior to
digging. Calling 8-1-1 can potentially avoid an incident that requires police
and fire response. You should always be prepared to effectively deal with a
potentially hazardous situation. For additional information about 8-1-1 please
Customers are
the first line of defense when it comes to gas leak detection and helping to
keep homes and the community safe. If you smell gas anywhere, including
in your home, go outside and call 9-1-1 and National Grid’s emergency number
immediately:
