Dear Resident,

Tropical Storm Isaias dealt quite a blow to Stewart Manor. As such, I have declared a State of Emergency in the Village.  Thankfully, we had no reported injuries.  As this is being written, we are aware that many of you are without power and that some have trees down.  We also have a few roads blocked (Tulip Avenue between Argyle and Carlton, Carlton Terrace between Salisbury and Chester, Fernwood Terrace between Chester and Cambridge).  DPW and Fire Department crews worked throughout the storm yesterday and last night to do what they can.  Some items, such as branches and trees intermingled with downed wires, are beyond the Village’s control, as crews cannot approach them until they are deemed safe.  We have been in contact with PSEG and asked them for an update on the current status of these items.  We have also been in contact with our tree contractor, Harder, who will get a crew to address the tree on Fernwood Terrace that is blocking the road, at least to the point of getting the road open.

We urge you to remember to not approach any downed wires.  Please remind the children in your household of this as well. We also urge you to contact PSEG if you are still without power. We know contacting them yesterday was an issue for many.

Please know that we continue to work to address the remaining issues and to clear the storm debris in the Village.

Mayor Mike Onorato
