March 16, 2020
Dear Resident,
The Board will be holding
another emergency meeting tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall to discuss the
Village’s continuing plans with regard to the Covid-19 Pandemic. As of this time, I can let you know of the
following:
Village Services:
To date, to our knowledge,
no staff member has contracted coronavirus or has been in direct contact with
someone who has been diagnosed with the virus.
Trash, Recycling &
Bulk Pickup:
At this time all services
will continue as usual. As a reminder, all trash must be placed in securely
tied bags, no loose garbage or untied bags will be collected. All bagged and
bundled items can be no more than 40 lbs. Mattresses and box springs must be
placed inside bedbug proof encasement and completely sealed.
Village Hall:
Effective immediately, the
Village Hall building is closed to the public for the regular work day and for
any outside group events, including senior aerobics. The office staff is working and continuing to
provide services, with the most essential being given priority. If you need assistance, we recommend you email
the Village Hall at villagehall@stewartmanor.org.
There is also a mail slot in the front door of the Village Hall where
you can drop off payments or papers for the staff. Planning ahead, there will be no Easter Egg
Hunt in the Village this year. We will make determinations on other events as
time goes on. It is too early for us to
know about the upcoming pool season as well.
Village Election:
As of this writing, the
election on Wednesday will go forward at Village Hall from noon to 9 p.m. Only
the governor has the authority to postpone an election. We will do everything in our power to keep
the polls clean and sanitary, according to guidelines. In the Village this year, we have an
uncontested election. Peter Healy is
running to retain his position as Trustee for a three-year term
The Community:
You may have heard that
effective at 8 p.m. this evening, all bars, restaurants, gyms and casinos in
the tristate area will close. The
restaurants and bars can only offer take-out, and according to officials, take-out
is safe and will help small businesses stay in business during this difficult
time. Other types of businesses have
been encouraged to reduce hours, and limit patrons, but there is no mandate as
of this writing. Grocery stores and pharmacies are providing essential services
and will remain open.
With a sensitivity to the
situation, particularly for the elderly, we contacted both of our closest
grocery stores: Key Food and King Kullen, to see if they offer delivery. We have been told at this time that they do
not. There are however other home
delivery services, that could be explored.
CVS offers delivery of prescriptions, via their website. Some stores offer curbside pickup. These are all items you may want to explore.
We urge you to continue to
follow the CDC guidelines. It is also
recommended that you stay at home and limit your interactions with others to
those that are absolutely necessary and practice social distancing.
Covid-19 Testing:
As of today, there are
still not enough tests to be able to test everyone who would like to be tested.
The state is working on setting up a drive through testing site, but as of the
information this morning, that will not be available until at least later in
the week (possibly at Jones Beach). Until
more test kits are available, medical professionals are limited as to who they
can test. As a result, it is difficult
to say who may have the virus or been exposed to it, so you should protect
yourself and others.
Please know that the above
information is subject to change. The
Village will continue to monitor the situation and will do our best to keep you
informed.
Mayor Mike Onorato
