Dear Resident,

The Board held an emergency meeting this afternoon to discuss the Village’s plans with regard to the Covid-19 Pandemic.  The Village currently is operating on a business as usual protocol, within the CDC guidelines.  No Village employee has been diagnosed with the virus or has been in direct contact with anyone that has been diagnosed at this time.  The Mayor declared a State of Emergency, so as to allow the Village to obtain any assistance or funding that may become available if such an emergency exists.  The Board also passed a resolution to enter into an intermunicipal agreement for shared services with other municipalities to try to mitigate any potential future disruption to municipal services.  The Fire Department is ready and equipped, as per Chief Powell’s email earlier this week, to address any and all emergencies.  We have been assured by both government officials and our local utilities that they are prepared to handle and/or support local emergencies.

There is a Village Election on Wednesday, March 18th from noon until 9 p.m. at the Village Hall. Peter Healy, who was appointed to the Board in November, is running uncontested in this Special Election for a three-year Trustee term.  The election will take place as usual, with adherence to CDC guidelines.

The Board understands the community is concerned.  We also share an increased concern for our seniors or those who are medically vulnerable.  As a senior if you feel assistance is needed please contact the Village.

We urge you to continue to follow the CDC guidelines as per the attached flyers which were created by Nassau County.  It is our hope that by strictly following these guidelines, the current pandemic will be able to get under control quickly.

Please know that the above information is subject to change.  The Village will continue to monitor the situation and will do our best to keep you informed.

Mayor Mike Onorato
