Dear Resident,
I am forwarding this
communication as a follow up to my January 21, 2020 email regarding the closure
of New Hyde Park Road from Plaza Ave to 4th Avenue on February 3,
2020 for a period of seven months.
I want to let you know that
the Board met with representatives of the MTA and 3TC this past Friday.
We expressed the significant concerns of the Village and its residents
regarding this closure. We also secured the presence of those officials
at our next Board meeting which will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 7
p.m., to hear and address any of your concerns directly. In the meantime,
we will monitor the situation and will be in continual contact with the MTA and
3TC.
Furthermore, I held a
conference call this week with Garden City Village officials, including the
Mayor and Police Commissioner. Both Villages will be installing large no truck
signs (except local delivery) to deter the use of Salisbury Avenue and Chester
Avenue as cut throughs between Covert Avenue and New Hyde Park Road.
You should be aware that
neither Village has any control or jurisdiction in the actual detour,
which is completely under the control of Nassau County, as the detour is
located solely on Nassau County roads (Covert Avenue, Stewart Avenue, Tulip
Avenue and New Hyde Park Road are all under the jurisdiction of Nassau County).
We will report events as
warranted as we closely monitor the traffic situation when the detour takes
effect.
Mayor Mike Onorato
