VILLAGE TAXES DUE
Village
Taxes are due on Monday, July 3rd.
The Village Hall will be open until 4 p.m. that day to collect your
payment.
RECYCLING OF NEWPAPERS
SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY
The
recycling collection of newspapers, which would normally take place on Tuesday,
the 4th, is rescheduled for Monday the 3rd.
VILLAGE RECYCLING CONTAINERS
ON SALE
Village recycling containers are currently on sale at the 25%
discounted rate of $15 each at the Village Hall between 9:00 a.m. and 3 p.m.
These are the newer, forest green containers with a lid and Village logo (not
the old lighter green bins). The supply
is somewhat limited, so they will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
If you are interested, please stop by to get yours before they are gone.
LONGEST
RESIDING RESIDENT OR FAMILY
In anticipation of the Village’s 90th Anniversary
celebration on Saturday August 19th at the pool, the Village is
looking to determine who is the longest living resident or family in the
Village. If you have any information,
please email it to villagehall@stewartmanor.org. Flyers about this event were mailed to all
homes earlier this week, which is open to adult Stewart Manor residents and
staff only.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES WORK SESSION
AND MEETING
The
regular Board of Trustees work session will be held next Thursday, July 6th
at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall. The next
regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held on Tuesday, July 11th
at 7 p.m. (please note the new, earlier time). It will begin with a Public Hearing on a
proposed local law regarding the hours of operation of businesses in the
business district.
4th of JULY
The
Village Hall will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th. There will be no sanitation pickup. The
recycling collection of newspapers is cancelled on the 4th and will
take place on Monday the 3rd instead as mentioned above.
The Fire Department will be hosting the annual 4th of
July Parade on Tuesday, July 4th, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Stewart
Avenue. The parade route
is as follows (the same as prior years): The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. on
Stewart Ave and Fernwood Terrace North and then proceeds as follows: Stewart
Avenue to Covert Avenue, then south on Covert Avenue to Salisbury Avenue,
Salisbury Avenue to Dover Parkway, Dover Parkway to Cambridge Avenue, Cambridge
Avenue to Tulip Avenue and then back to the Village Hall. A block party
and barbeque will take place after the parade in the municipal parking lot.
As in past years there will be patriotic floats, bands, antique
cars and trucks and elected officials participating in the parade. Afterwards
there will be the customary block party and barbeque in the municipal parking
lot with food and entertainment for all ages. Be sure to come
out and enjoy the holiday with your friends and neighbors. If you
live along the parade route please try to keep your car off the street as
to allow the parade to pass safely. Also please be sure to display your
American flag.
During the last few years, the number of
reports of water balloons being thrown at our American Flag, Nassau County
Police Officers, Color Guard, fire vehicle windows and windshields,
women, seniors; and children getting too close to large Fire Vehicles have
increased. Therefore, in order for all to enjoy and safely observe our country’s
birthday celebration, the Chiefs of the Department in
conjunction with the Nassau County Police Department developed the following
parade rules for all attending and participating:
1. PLEASE
do not throw balloons or shoot water guns at: an American Flag, Nassau County
Police Officers, any COLOR GUARD UNIT or Marching Band, Veterans or Elected
Officials, windows or windshields (whether open or closed) of fire vehicles,
antique cars or motorcycles.
2.
PLEASE KEEP CHILDREN OFF THE STREET AND FAR REMOVED FROM WHEELS of fire
vehicles.
3.
DO NOT use LACROSSE sticks to
PROPEL balloons
4.
PLEASE THROW balloons SOFTLY, PLAYFULLY and NOT with HIGH VELOCITY
5.
PLEASE AVOID throwing balloons that hit young children, women or seniors
