SWIM LESSON SIGN-UPS FOR BEGINNER SWIMMERS THIS FRIDAY, JUNE 12th FROM 7 TO 8 P.M. AT THE VILLAGE HALL FOR BOTH RESIDENT AND NON-RESIDENT POOL MEMBERS ONLY

The Stewart Manor Pool will again be offering swimming lessons which will focus on young, beginner swimmers only.  There will be a fee of $20 for the first child on a membership and $10 for each additional child on that membership.  The lessons will be on a first come, first served basis.  There will be two sessions of eight lessons each, with two beginner levels per session.  The lessons will be held Monday to Thursday.  The first session will begin on July 6 and run through July 16. The second session will begin on July 20 and run through July 30.  The lessons will begin at 10 a.m. and will last for 1/2 hour and will alternate between beginners and advanced beginners (for example, beginners at 10 a.m., advanced beginners at 10:30 a.m.). The beginner lessons are for children between the ages of 5 and 7 as of July 1 and advanced beginners are for children older than age 7 through age 9 by July 1. No lessons will be offered to any child who has not reached their fifth birthday by July 1.  There will be additional sign ups at the pool once it is open, only if there is space remaining.   Children may only sign up for one session per season.  We suggest that older children or more advanced swimmers join the swim team to perfect their strokes and gain additional practice. (There is an 8 and under group, with the swimmers starting at age 6 and a 13 and over group goes up to and includes 16 year olds).

POOL MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS

We continue to accept pool membership applications at the Village Hall.  The pool season will run from 4 p.m. on Friday, June 19th to 5 p.m. on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th.  Please consider joining and enjoying all the pool has to offer.  All prior non-resident members must have their applications in by tomorrow, Wednesday, June 10th to avoid being placed on a waiting list.  Non-resident waiting list applications will be processed by lottery as space allows once all prior applications have been processed in the Village Hall.

SUMMER COURTESY REMINDERS

The Village Hall has received a number of complaints regarding quality of life issues.  While we work to address all complaints individually, we ask that residents be particularly mindful of the following:

  1. Please do not leave your dog out for periods of time where they can continue to bark and disrupt your neighbors.  Also, walk your dogs in the street and do not allow them to defecate anywhere other than the street.

  2. Please trim back all bushes, trees, hedges and shrubs back from the sidewalk to allow for pedestrians to pass easily. The bushes need to be even with the edge of the sidewalk and not overhang the sidewalk.

  3. All sidewalk repairs are the responsibility of the homeowner.  If your sidewalk is raised or cracked, it is your responsibility to have it fixed.  You must obtain a permit from the Village Hall.  Applications are available on the website: www.stewartmanor.org.

  4. Do not block sidewalks with your cars.  Please pull up your car(s) as far as possible in the driveway so that they do not extend over the sidewalk.

  5. Do not put out portable basketball hoops so that they block either the sidewalk or the street.  Both pose a hazard both to pedestrians and to the individuals playing.

  6. Please respect all stop signs in the Village when driving. We also encourage to drive slower than the speed limit through the Village streets for the safety of all pedestrians.

SUMMER SAFETY REMINDERS

As the summer season gets underway, please keep in mind the following items to protect yourself and your neighbors:

  1. If vacationing, consider setting a timer that will turn on a light.  Remember to make arrangements for your mail and newspaper.  Avoid any clear signs that you are away.

  2. Lock your car doors at all times.  Thefts from cars almost always occur from cars that are not locked.

  3. Consider outside lights with motion detectors.

  4. Call 911 to report any activity that is suspicious, day or night. If the activity is innocent, then no harm will be done.

NASSAU COUNTY AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT 105

The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Unit 105, which serves Stewart Manor, recently sent letters asking for donations and volunteers.  The Auxiliary Police Units are a part of the Nassau County Police Department.  They assist the Village with activities such as serving in the Village Justice Court, in patrolling the streets and in assisting with crowd and traffic control at Village events, all on a volunteer basis after completing extensive training.  For more information on the Auxiliary Police and volunteering, please consult their website at: http://pdcnaux.org/index.html. Please support these wonderful local volunteers of Unit 105.
