Table Of Contents:
Summary:
The Village is under a snow emergency for the Blizzard. Please click on the headline for more information.
Body:

Please read this entire message as it contains a significant amount of important information and phone numbers.  If you have a neighbor who you believe will not see this message, please print a
copy and deliver it to them before the storm.

Please be aware that the Village has declared a snow emergency in anticipation of the blizzard.  Basically, this means that we require that cars are kept off the street to allow the snowplows to do their work and to make the streets as clear as possible.  We also ask that you follow the advice of all emergency management officials and stay home once the brunt of the storm hits.  The less people on the road and walking in the street make snow removal safer for everyone.  If you must be out, particularly if you are walking, please wear something very visible and be aware of approaching cars and plows.

The DPW crews will be out continually throughout the storm to make the roads passable, as long as conditions are safe for them to do so.  Please know that their top priority is to keep the roads passable.  When you use a snow blower, please blow the snow back onto your property rather than into the street so that they can keep the streets safe and as clear as possible.  Also, if you live near a fire hydrant, please help to keep yourself and your neighbors safe by clearing all snow from around the hydrant to make it accessible.

For any medical or fire emergency (other than a police matter), you should call 742-3300, which is always the fastest way for the Fire Department to be dispatched (faster than 911).  The Chief's office will serve as an emergency command center.  It can be reached directly at 516-354-0880 at any time for very important storm related matters as it will be manned for the duration of the storm, however, emergency situations should still be called through Firecom at 742-3300 first for the quickest response!!.  The Village Hall regular phone line will not be manned, call the Chief's office instead.  If your household has someone with lifesaving medical equipment, please notify the Chief's office so they can be aware of this.  You should also have contacted PSEGLI to let them know if the situation.

In addition, Chief Skinner has asked that we remind you of the following:

-Most importantly, stay inside during the storm

-Please check the batteries in you CO meters

-Be careful using alternate means of heat as they could present a carbon monoxide danger.  Using extension cords with heaters is should always be avoided.

-If you are in need of anything during the storm, you can call the Chiefs, first at the Chief's office: 354-0880, or if necessary, on the Chief's cell phones: Chief Skinner: 516-263-3890 or Chief Sopp:
516-865-7711

- Stay off the road

- Get blankets and flashlights ready in case of loss of power

- Check on an elderly neighbors

While the Village is hoping that there are not any power outages, they do remain a possibility.  Please call PSEG Long Island to report any outage at 1-800-490-0075.  Do not assume they are aware of the outage.  You should also call that number to report any downed power lines.  Please remember to not approach any downed lines, always assume that they are energized.  The Village Hall now has an emergency generator, so in the event of a power outage should be able to charge cell phones and the like here during the day.  However, please call first as the actual Village Hall hours are uncertain at this time.

There will be NO recycling or sanitation pickup tomorrow.  Also, for all households in the Village, please make an effort to have your garbage cans as accessible as possible for the crews, even if that means moving the garbage to the curb beginning on Wednesday for your regular collection day while the hazardous conditions exist.

Thank you for your cooperation in all of the above matters and please be safe.

Lastly, the next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will take place next Tuesday, February 3rd at 8 p.m. at the Village Hall.
