E-Cycling

As of January 1, 2015, due to the NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act, consumers may no longer dispose of certain types of electronic equipment in landfills, waste-to-energy facilities, in the trash, or at curbside for trash pickup. You must now dispose of electronic items in a way similar to how you dispose of hazardous waste with the STOP program.  Please see the attached information sheet which contains materials from both the Town of Hempstead and the NYSDEC.

In order to be in compliance with this law, the Village of Stewart Manor’s sanitation crews will not be able pick up any of the following items left at curbside or with your garbage effective immediately:

Computers (including laptops, desktops, tablets and e-readers).

Televisions

Cathode ray tubes

Computer peripherals (including any cable, cord, or wiring accompanying the computer peripheral.)

Monitors

Electronic keyboards

Electronic mice or similar pointing devices

Facsimile machines, document scanners, and printers (only those intended for use with a computer and weighing less than 100 lbs.)

Small electronic equipment (including any cable, cord, or wiring accompanying the small electronic equipment.)

VCRs

Digital video recorders (DVRs)

Portable digital music players

DVD players (including projectors with DVD player capabilities intended for home-use)

Digital converter boxes

Cable or satellite receivers (including digital media receivers)

Electronic or video game consoles (including both handheld devices and those intended for use with a video display device)

Small scale servers

The Village of Stewart Manor is exploring some options with regard to this waste, however, for now; the Town of Hempstead is providing E-Cycling Collections for these items for its residents on the specific dates and locations listed below.  In addition, some collection sites are being provided by electronic retailers and manufacturers.  For more information, consult the following website and call the location ahead of time for specifics of their program:  http://www.greenergadgets.org/Recycle-Electronics.aspx.
