Please be aware that the Village has declared a snow emergency in anticipation of the snow that is set to arrive later this afternoon. Basically, this means that we require that cars are kept off the street to allow the snowplows to do their work and to make the streets as clear as possible. We also ask that you follow the advice of all emergency management officials and stay home once the brunt of the storm hits. The less people on the road and walking in the street make snow removal safer for everyone. If you must be out, particularly if you are walking, please wear something very visible and be aware of approaching cars and plows.
The DPW crews will be out continually, throughout the night, once the snow begins, to make the roads passable, as long as conditions are safe for them to do so. When you use a snow blower, please blow the snow back onto your property rather than into the street so that we can keep the streets safe and as clear as possible.
For any emergency (other than a police matter), you should call 742-3300, which is always the fastest way for the Fire Department to be dispatched (faster than 911).
While the Village is hoping that there are not any power outages, they do remain a possibility. Please call PSEG Long Island to report any outage at 1-800-490-0075. Do not assume they are aware of the outage. You should also call that number to report any downed power lines. Please remember to not approach any downed lines, always assume that they are energized.
For any of you with Friday sanitation pick-up, depending on the storm, there is uncertainty as to whether it will take place. If your garbage is not collected on Friday, it will be collected on your next regular day, which is Monday. Also, for all households in the Village, please make an effort to have your garbage cans as accessible as possible for the crews, even if that means moving the garbage to the curb for your regular collection day while the hazardous conditions exist.
Thank you for your cooperation in all of the above matters and please be safe.
Lastly, the next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will take place next Tuesday, January 7th at 8 p.m. at the Village Hall.
